Note on Ezzy Masts
Ezzy Sails work great with the Ezzy Mast system, but also work with a variety of other brand masts (RDM and regular diameter). You could contact your mast maker and see if the bend of your non-Ezzy mast is compliant.
Ezzy mast bend curves are tip: 75% to 79% and base: 62% to 65%
Note: this is not carbon content. This is percentage bend relative to the midpoint bend.

Hello to ezzy team 🙂
I have a bit of a problem in my new ezzy wave panther 2. I use to rig the sail with an sdm 400m/21 mast which is not ezzy. Battens make noise when i change side. I leave them a little bit loose but they are still noisy. I cant understand whats the problem? Maybe i need to pull more downhaul ?
Maybe its better to change the top of the sail and to use a rdm 430/21 fiberspar mast i own ? This will be better solution for this sail?
As i noticed to your guide you mention that ezzy sails can work with sdm and rdm.
However i think ezzy sails are the best choice !! 🙂

Looks like I’ve made my mind up and will go with a 5.0 Wavepanther to add to the quiver, however the importer doesn’t have any 400 masts in stock. Would the sail rig ok on a Gaastra 430 60% RDM (ICMS 21)? I’ve looked at the bend curve online and its compatible, I’m just worried I’d lose too much performance needing the head extension and therefore have a suboptimal sail. The other option is a 5.5 Freeride with either this mast or if I can outlay the cash, one of your 430’s so would I get better performance out of that combination?? Initially using this for Bump and jump only.
thanks for the message back. I believe we just shipped an order of masts to your importer, so they should have some 400’s soon. It is my understanding that the Gaastra masts are a bit stiffer in the tip than our mast. It will work in the Panther, but may not be optimum. I suggest trying your Gaastra mast and then comparing it to our mast or a similar mast to ours if you get the chance.
The 5.0 on a 430cm length mast is not a bad way to go. 400cm is best, but 430 is a good second choice.
The 5.5 FR on a 430 is ideal.

Problem solved, found a second hand Ezzy 400 locally. Its a 2004/5 mast which as far as I can tell looks identical to the new models- that’s going to work fine with a 2010 Wavepanther 2 right?? (you can delete my similar and yet to be posted comment)

I have a question regarding the 5.2 Panther2. I have both complete Ezzy rdm 400 & 430 sets. What would be the suggested best combination – The 430cm top and base or 400 base & 430 top? Is there any performance hit by choosing one over the other?

thank you for the message Evan. The Ezzy mast system requires that the bottom length never be longer than the tip. The 430 tip + 400 bottom is the ideal set up!

I’m thinking about buying some ezzy sails wave panther. But I don’t know which sizes are more adequate.
I’m used to more conventional sails wich have a different design philosophy and are rather flat, and I saw some ezzy sails on the beach and I noticed the deep pre-shape.
So I guess when the wind blows into the sail, the ezzy maintains her shape, while other brands sails just fills with the wind and form her own shape.
Now my question is if the ezzy sails is more powerful than other brand sails because of the pre-shape?
So for example a gaastra manic 4,7m is equal to which size in the ezzy wave panther range (in terms of power)? 4,2? 4,5? 4,7?

thank you for the message. The sizing of the sails should line up with your traditional reasoning. Our target, say, for a 4.7, is to make that sail feel absolutely wonderful for 4.7 conditions. David Ezzy has a different design philosophy than other sail makers with regards to shaping. It truly might be best for you to chat with him on the telephone to explain things in detail. His direct number is 808 575-2566.
Regarding 4.7 Gaastra power vs. Ezzy power, I would select the same size sail but know that you might need a minute to learn how to tune for conditions on the Ezzy. One nice thing you can count on is that you can scale your future sail purchases with bigger jumps between sizes. Virtually all sail brands have worked on enhancing tuning range. In other words, instead of going from 4.7 to a 5.2 you can now consider going from a 4.7 to a 5.5. From a 4.7 down you can consider going to a 4.0.

i love my 5 qm ezzy wave panther from 09, just curious, putting all the hype aside, i already know ezzy is one of the very best sails, what are main design changes compared to ezzys wave sails say from five years ago?
thanks for asking. Good question. Some years, I feel like the improvements made in the sail are small. Other years, the improvements are immediately easy to spot. Based on global feedback I’ve been receiving all year, the ’11 sails are lighter and more stable than the ’10 (and the ’09). If you go back 5 years, there have been one or two huge improvements. One of the biggest leaps forward was the transition from ’07 to ’08. The other big improvement has been in using more of the white “Tri-Lite” fabric which makes the heads of the sails so much lighter. We’re really not a “hype” company. We rely on word of mouth and the product 100% to maintain our reputation. I think the product speaks for itself!

I have a wave panther 5.5 and it’s awsome,it rigs great on my north gold 430.I love the powerful but soft feel.
I am thinking of buying a 5.0 2010 panther,will this rig ok on my rrd vogue 400 rdm,I have access to a pryde x5 or a north red if these are more suited.

thanks for the message. Glad to hear you like the 5.5. The North masts work great in our sails. I’m not so sure how the RRD masts work, but I believe they have a stiffer tip than our masts. I would lean towards the North mast over the others. Any chance of getting you into an Ezzy Mast?
