What inspired the Cross?
David Ezzy needed one sail that would satisfy his two loves, foiling and windsurfing. He took what he learned from the past 4 years of foiling and combined it with his 40 years of wave and freeriding to come up with the Cross.
How does it compare to the Cheetah?
The Cross is maneuverable and light in the hands, providing a bump-and-jump freeride experience, whereas the Cheetah provides a locked-in freeride experience. For high-wind freeriding, we recommend the 4.7 Cross as the next size below the 5.5 Cheetah.
How does the Cross achieve high performance for both foiling and regular windsurfing?
The Cross can be rigged flat with a shallow yet defined profile for foiling, or rigged full with a deep, forward profile for freeride and bump-and-jump. The settings are easy to see with our calibrated downhaul gauge.
What else?
David realized that the traditional method of scaling sails resulted in boom lengths that are too short on the small sails, which is why small sails under 4.0 usually have an on/off feeling. The Cross addresses this by keeping the boom length the same for the 4.7 and smaller. This smooths out the smaller sizes and gives them excellent stability not only on the foil but also for regular windsurfing. It also eliminates the need to buy a shorter boom for the smaller sizes.
Why buy the Cross?
The Cross works great as a stand-alone foil or windsurf sail. If you do both, the Cross will reduce the number of sails in your quiver.
How does the Cross's outline change through the sizes?
Short boom lengths make small sails twitchy, with an on-off feel. To solve that, the Cross keeps the same boom and foot from the 4.7 down to the 2.8. Even the smallest sizes feel stable and comfortable, which is what you want when the wind is howling.
How does the Cross rig for the foil versus the fin?
For foiling you generally want more downhaul, so the sail sets up flatter. The downhaul gauge on the Cross is tuned for both fin and foil.
What do we mean by quality construction?
Living and testing on Maui, we have learned how to make sails that survive the elements. The Cross is a freeride and foil sail, but it is built with everything we know from making wave sails. There is no monofilm to crack and break. The Cross is made with lightweight, strong scrim, Dyneema and Technora-reinforced sailcloth, and RBS epoxy battens, the strongest battens in the world.
Every seam is glued and covered before it is sewn. David Ezzy owns his own factory because no other factory can produce the quality he demands.
Every sail is rigged in the factory by craftsmen who check every millimeter, from headcap to pulley. While it is rigged, the battens are tuned so the sail is ready straight out of the bag for your first session.

How does the calibrated rigging save you time?
No one likes spending time rigging. The Cross sets up in minutes, with gauges that take the guesswork out of tuning. Downhaul until the gauge lines up with the bottom of your mast. That's it. Markers on the clew make the outhaul just as precise. Every sail is rigged and calibrated in the Ezzy Sails factory.

The Ezzy Hookipa Mast
Ezzy Sails work great with the Ezzy Mast system, but also work with a variety of other brand masts (RDM and regular diameter). You could contact your mast maker and see if the bend of your non-Ezzy mast is compliant.
Ezzy mast bend curves are tip: 75% to 79% and base: 62% to 65%
