    hi,
    i want to buy a 6.0 freeride 4. i have a 490 mast and a 400. both ezzy hookipa. how should i mix them?
    thanx from germany.

    1. Anonymous says : Reply

thanks for the email Sebastian. The ideal mast length for the 6.0 is a 430. Unfortunately mixing the 490 tip and 400 bottom would give you an unusual bend. The tip would be too soft.
You could use a 460 tip and 400 bottom, but doing more than two size jumps in the mix and match system is not recommended.
      Regards,
      Tim

Now i have an 490 ezzy hookipa and a 430 base ezzy hookipa.
        How can i match them?

        Thanx

        1. Anonymous says : Reply

thanks for the message. You can use the 490 TIP and the 430 BASE together to get a 460cm mast.
          thanks!

    hi,
i have a 6.0 freeride & 7.5 infinity, thinking of ‘going skinny’ mastwise.
could i get away with 3 pieces, and if so which?
    johnny D (hudson river rats)

    1. Anonymous says : Reply

thanks for the inquiry Johnny. There are a couple of ways to go about it. I think the most important thing is to get the exact right mast for the sail you think you will be using the most. If you are going to be using the 7.5 Infinity more, here is what I would suggest:

      7.5 – 460 tip/460 bottom
      6.0 – 460 tip/400 bottom
      total pieces needed (3)

If the 6.0 Freeride is the more critical, then I would do this:
      7.5 Infinity – 490 tip/430 bottom
      6.0 Freeride – 430 tip/430 bottom

      Hope this helps!

Hello, I have a Powerex RDM 60% carbon mast with a 430 bottom and a 400 top would this work ok on a wave panther 4.7 and 5.2m. I see from your web site that the top should generally be the longest part if mixing masts?

    Thanks.

    H.

    1. Anonymous says : Reply

      thanks for the comment.
We haven’t tested the Powerex 60% carbon mast series on the mix and match system, so I can’t say it would work. The other issue is that the tip needs to be the same length or longer than the bottom for our system to work properly. A longer bottom and shorter tip yields an incorrect bend.

For the 4.7m sail there is only one combination of mast. Is it possible to use a 370cm base?

  5. Anonymous says : Reply

you can use a 430 tip + 370 bottom to reach a 400cm luff length. The bend would be satisfactory for the 4.7. Hope this helps!

I have a 490 Hotrod from Hotsails, please can you tell me if it work with a 9,5 Infinity?

    1. Anonymous says : Reply

thanks for the email. Wish I could give you a 100% firm answer on this, but I’m not positive of the Hot mast bend curves. I think the bends are similar to ours, but not 100% certain

Hello, i would ask if i can use a mastfoot (zero extension) to rig my 3,7mq panther with a 370 mast without any risk for my mast..
    Thank you in advance.

    1. Anonymous says : Reply

shouldn’t be any concern to rig the 3.7 with a 370 regarding mast strength or potential damage, however, you will find the 340 is lighter and easier to rig.
      Hope this helps!

    Hello,
    I have a Freeride 4 2010 7m2 which I love, and am thinking about purchasing a Freeride 4 2010 8.5m2 or an Infinity 2010 8.5m2.
I also need to upgrade my mast to an Ezzy (I’ve been using a used 460 fiberspar but don’t want to risk it any more, it creaks).
Your mast configurator offers an “alternate choice” for both sails of a 460 bottom + 490 top, and I’d love to go for such a one-mast solution because of cost:
    1) this alternate choice was computerized. Do you feel that it would work well enough for both of these sails, knowing that I’d likely mostly use the 7.0 rigged flat and the 8.5 rigged full?
    2) if so, what online dealer would do such a mix&match of non-matching top/bottom pieces?
    Thank you.

    1. Anonymous says : Reply

      thanks for asking Nick!
I think the 490 tip/460 bottom is a great solution for you. If you want to keep a close eye on the budget, then this option works. The 8.5 (infinity or freeride) on a 490/460 is a nice sailing combination. The 7.0 would work nicely as long as you adjusted your head turbine.

Any of our dealers can help to set you up with this combination, but I can’t think of a dealer that sells 1/2 masts in their web store. Where do you live? I could connect you with a dealer that can give you quotes via email. Regards, Tim

        Thanks for this info Tim.
Actually just ordered (from the excellent Isthmus) a full 460 tip+bottom because my FR 7.0 is my most used sail and I want the best for it 🙂
        But when I find a good deal on a FR/Infinity 8.5, I’ll purchase a 490 top.
It’s great, seems one can reasonably cover the whole 5.5-8.5 range with a full 460 top+bottom, a 490 top, a 430 bottom, a long extension and one of these big-range Chinook Pro boom. Might not be optimal for all sails, but one can always fill in the blanks later…
        Thanks again, you guys rock.

     Hi,
I m about to change my Ezzy quiver (2008 + 2 panther I) into 3 Panther III and i’d like to have your opinion on the masts.
The sizes i need are 4.0, 4.7 and 5.5. I have always sailed my 5.5 on a RDM 400 mast with 38 extension and it worked fine.
Knowing that i weigh only 70 kg and that the 5.5 is therefore used in low winds where pumping for getting (and staying) on the plane
are very important. Of course the 4.7 works better with this mast but i would like to avoid buying 3 different masts.
Which options do i have? Thanks in advance for your answer.

    1. Anonymous says : Reply

thanks for reaching out! Here is the most “down and dirty” configuration that I can drum up that should give you a great performing set up.

5.5 – 400 tip/400 bottom (no problem. Kevin Pritchard uses this set up and really likes it)
      4.7 – 400 tip/400 bottom – perfect set up
4.0 – 400 tip/340 bottom – this yields you a 370cm mast that should work great for this sail.

Hi. I have a RDM 4.9m base and top, using Freeride 7.5M and 9.5M sails. I am planning to buy a Panther 2011  5.0M sail and would like to know which top could I use with my 4.9m base in order to rig the new 5.0M sail without buying a new whole set, if possible.
    Thanks,

    Ronald, Dubai

    1. Anonymous says : Reply

thanks for the message Ronald. The mix and match system works great on the masts up to a two size gap. At best, you could take your 490 tip and mix it with a 430 bottom. This would yield a 460cm mast.
I would advise you to get a different mast for your 5.0, as a 460cm mast is too long to get great performance out of the 5.0.
What other size sails do you have?

If I purchased a RDM 400 (base+top) and a RDM 460 top, could I combine the 400 bottom + 460 top for a 430?  Would it be structurally and functionally sound?  If so, where can I purchase these components?  Thanks!

    1. Anonymous says : Reply

thanks for the email Peter. Yes, you are able to combine a 460 tip/400 bottom. You end up with a 430 mast that is within the tolerances of our mast. Works great. Where do you live? I can point you towards a dealer that can help! Regards, Tim

hi would like to know what is the warranty with your masts as i was recently sailing with your masts and the top piece of the mast blow through the side wall of the bottom piece of the mast. was not in pressed as i had a long swim back to the beach and your suppiler was not intressed to help me same old same always excusses. i hope you can help me here i still have the broken me on my belongings if you wish to see it ? THANK YOU

    1. Anonymous says : Reply

sorry about the trouble you’ve had with your mast Claire. Who is your dealer?
Our masts come with a 1 year warranty, but many times we bend the rules if it looks like there is an issue. Typically, when there is a “tear” in the mast like you’ve described, it is the result of the two pieces not being completely set together upon rigging. At any rate, please email me pics of the broken mast along with serial numbers so that I can take them to our supplier to investigate. My email is ezzy@gorge.net

      Regards,
      Tim

I have a question similar to Peters 4 months ago. I have an Ezzy 460 RDM and want to make a 430 mast – you said in the previous: ” Yes, you are able to combine a 460 tip/400 bottom. You end up with a 430 mast that is within the tolerances of our mast. Works great. Where do you live? I can point you towards a dealer that can help! Regards, Tim ” Where could I find a 400 bottom to go with my 460 tip? I live in Michigan. Thanks,Eric

    1. Anonymous says : Reply

thank you for the message Eric. Any of our authorized Ezzy dealers can sell you just a 400 bottom. Which dealer did you purchase the 460 from? Which is your favorite windsurf shop?

    Hi there.
I have a 4.5 ezzy sail, recommended to be used with a 400 mast. I’ve got 460, 430, and 370 masts for my other ezzy sails.
What would be the better way of achieving the 400 – mix and match the 430 or user an extension on the 300?

    Many thanks.

    Dinh

  15. Anonymous says : Reply

thank you for the email Dinh. I’ve got two suggestions for you to try:
    1. if you have long enough extension, try rigging your 4.5 on a 370 tip/370 bottom.
    2. you could try the 430 tip/370 bottom (which would give you 400cm length).
Let me know how it goes!

  16. Hi everybody,

no problem at all for bigger guys to use RDM’s. In fact, the RDM’s are a better way to go because they are far more durable!

Hi, I’m Pablo. I already have a 340, 370 and 400 Ezzy mast to combine with 3.3, 3.7, 4.2, 4.7 (Wave Panther) and 5.2 (Wave Panther III) and I recently buy a 490 to combine with a Loft Blade 8.6 2011 (luff 498) that fits perfect. My question is if I could combine some of my tip/base to rig another Loft Blade 7.0 2010 (luff 448). Thank you very much in advance and congratulations for your great products!

    1. ezzysails says : Reply

thank you for the message Pablo! The only possible combination I think you could consider is a 490 tip and 400 bottom. We don’t recommend using this big a span between mast sizes for our sails. The maximum span would be a 490 to a 430, which would give you a 460cm mast. Sorry I can’t be more helpful:)

      1. Pablo Lacasa says : Reply

Thank you very much for the answer. As soon as I have the sail I will try to rigg it with 490 tip and 400 bottom and I will let you know. Also, I could take a picture of the sail rigged so you can appreciate the details. Thanks a lot!

        1. Pablo Lacasa says : Reply

Hi again! I just try to rig the sails with combinations of 400 460 and 490 and the best options are for the 7.0 rigging base 400 and top 490, and for the 8.6 base and top 490. I tried also to rig the 8.6 with base and top 460 but there were an extension of 40cm so it was a little bit too much. The 7.0 looks a little bit better with base 400 and top 460
